We Are Villagers

During South By South West I had the privilege of getting to meet an Irish band called Dark Room Notes (they stayed at my girlfriend’s house for the week. Really great band, really nice people.

They told me about a band called Villagers (also from Ireland) who was going to perform after them at an Irish showcase during the week. So I stuck around to see what the hype was all about. It turned out to be just one little guy playing a little classical guitar.

He was amazing, everyone in the room was so taken aback when he began to sing. So, I found this video of his and I’d like to share it with you . . .

I hope you enjoyed that little tune.

The Rocketboys Are On Tour (part 4)

I’m finding it hard to muster up any desire to write about this last little tour The Rocketboys went on. Not because it wasn’t a great tour, and not for lack of interesting stories to tell. I’m just so hot. I’m sweating like crazy here in this little coffee shop.

You see, I’m sick. I have the flu, at least I think I do. I’ve had a bad fever for the past 4 days, as well as many other traditional flu-like symptoms. It started with a terribly sore throat the morning we left Atlanta. But, enough about my personal woes, let’s get down to business.

One of the best things for me was finally getting to see Brian Lee & His Orchestra live. I’ve known him for quite a while now, and have loved his music, but getting to experience it live is just amazing. He’s got so much soul.

We played a couple of shows with a guy from Washington DC named Andy Zipf, who turned out to not only be a great singer, but a really great guy (he helped us out tremendously when our van broke down {which is another story})

Our van broke down.

Haha, ok I’ll indulge. On our way from Nashville, TN to Athens, GA our van broke down. We were stranded and still about 3 hours away from Athens. Fortunately, Andy Zipf was close behind us and was able to pick up Justin, Mitch and me. So our first time in Athens we had to play an unrehearsed acoustic show. Oh well, it went alright. And I got to meet a guy from the band Mazerati (he was bar-tending at the venue in which we performed), so that was neat.

After our show in Atlanta, we got the opportunity to visit and hang out at Dallas Austin‘s studio.

It was so huge and amazing and spectacular. For those of you who don’t recognize his name, here are a few names he’s worked with that you might:

Michael Jackson, TLC, Boyz II Men, Pink, Monica, Madonna, Gwen Stefani

Our BMI Rep was hosting a songwriting retreat there that weekend, and he invited us to come out and meet some people and enjoy the studio.

Here’s a picture of me and J.C. writing a hit new R&B jam. You’ll probably be hearing it on the radio soon.

Also, you should look him up, he’s pretty awesome!

I can’t really think of anything else to tell you. Have a good day.
